About ART in the ANTHROPOCENE

ART in the ANTHROPOCENE

The book examines Davis’s personal artistic journey and early influences over five decades of practice across sculpture, installation, drawing, and public art.

Born in Los Angeles during the Cold War, an environment shaped by aerospace, freeway expansion, and nuclear anxiety. His work treats landscape as a system of signs, not scenery, revealing cultural narratives of progress and decline.

Educated at California State University, Fullerton, Davis was influenced by the Bauhaus, Rico Lebrun, Robert Irwin, Duchamp, and the Light and Space movement.

His work incorporates iconography, industrial remnants, celestial diagrams, cosmological tracings and connects to postwar experimental traditions – assemblage, Fluxus, and ecological art.

Davis’ practice interrogates memory, media, and civic space, embedding environmental and historical themes. His art addresses the Anthropocene – humanity’s impact on Earth through personal, organic narratives and highlights natural and cultural histories, emphasizing the inseparability of nature and human activity.
